Results. That’s the name of the game. What results are you getting in your life – personal, financial, spiritual? Do you know?
Periodically, you should be checking to see what results you are getting and decide if you are okay with those results. If you are satisfied with the results, great, keep doing what you’ve been doing and you’ll keep getting what you’re getting. If you’re unsatisfied with your results, great, let’s discuss what we need to do to change and improve the results. If you want bigger and better results, heck that’s fantastic, then let’s discuss ways you can increase your productivity, effectiveness, or sheer effort!
Either way, you need to know where you are at to see what type of course corrections need to be made to get you where you want to go, make sense? Great.
The great business philosopher Jim Rohn once told an ancient, biblical story about a master who had three servants, to which he gave talons. To the first servant, the master gave 5 talons, to the second servant the master gave 2 talons, and to the third servant he gave 1 talon.
The master was leaving for a short period of time and instructed his servants to increase their number of talons (wealth) while he was away; upon his return home, they’d have an “accounting”. So after a while the master returned and asked the servants how they did. Servant one said he increased his number of talons from 5 to 10. “Good numbers,” replied the master. The master then asked the second servant how he did and the servant showed him 4 talons. “Good numbers,” replied the master. Lastly, the master asked the third servant how he did and the servant said he still has his original 1 talon…
The story says the master “Lost His Cool!” The master freaked out and told the servant since he only managed to KEEP his 1 talon and NOT increase it he strongly suggests the servant give it to one of the other servants [pointing to the first and second servant]!”
Now why did the master freak out on the third servant who didn’t increase his number of talons? The answer according to Jim Rohn, “WE DON’T KNOW! I don’t know, you don’t know, nobody knows! But I think he was trying to prove a point that results is the name of the game.”
So here are the takeaways:
- You gotta get results, because RESULTS is the name of the game
- Take an accounting of your own personal talons!
Thus, I strongly recommend that you take an accounting with yourself:
- Health and Wellness – Take an accounting! Do you feel energized, are you at your perfect weight and physique, or would you like to sleep better?
- Relationships – Take an accounting! Do you have friends you can count on, do you feel connected with your family, would you like to feel more appreciated by the people you love?
- Finances – Take an accounting! How much money are you making, are you okay with that amount, would you like to increase it, would you like to increase your monthly cash flow?
Take an accounting in every area of your life. You need to know where you are at in order to get better and improve that area of your life. You can do it, just take the necessary time to review your results and make adjustments as necessary (next article).
